Producing minting dies
One day instead of months!
The production of dies for minting coins is a demanding task. For more than 20 years, the production of master dies has been the dominant process. As the number of commemorative coins and medals continues to grow and the need for faster design changes has increased at the same time, a new process is needed to produce high-quality minting dies with a comparable lifespan.
With the latest developments and innovations from ACSYS, laser engraving has reached an incredible engraving speed and has taken over various additional production and finishing processes. First and foremost, the premium performance Galvo Scan Head speeds up the 3D engraving process by up to 70% for complex designs. In addition, the femtosecond laser delivers incredible quality and speed, comparable to or even better than a picosecond laser. And with our patented Pulse Forging® technology, you can make surfaces clean, smooth and shiny, similar to polishing. Pulse Forging® is a cold process, which means that neither the material properties nor the hardness of the tool are changed.
Alexander Aminidis emphasized this once again in his presentation at the 19th Technical Forum of the World Money Fair in Berlin: “The process of direct laser engraving takes about a day instead of months as in the traditional workflow. From scanning the job and loading the design to direct engraving and coating, the process is very simple and only a matter of hours rather than days, depending on the number of engravings required.”
