Textured injection molding tools have become an integral part of plastics processing. Damage to a texture is followed by downtime, expensive repairs and even total failure of the tool.

The aim of the BMBF-funded “ToolRep” project was to map the entire repair chain in a prototype 3D laser processing system. Texture errors were automatically recognized and selected, filled using additive laser application and restored using special repair algorithms and laser engraving.

ACSYS Lasertechnik GmbH took on the role of technology integrator and project manager. In addition, the extensive experience gained in the fields of laser engraving, laser welding and surface detection provided very good conditions for the qualitatively optimal parameterization and coordination of the machining and measuring processes in a hybrid laser system.
