Discover why market-leading manufacturers and suppliers in the interior, exterior, drive, and electromobility sectors rely on laser technology from ACSYS.
Interiors
Positive user experiences are at the heart of the development of new interior designs in the automotive sector. A trend toward new materials, adaptive lighting, and dynamic design has developed, particularly as a result of electromobility and electric vehicles. Discover how you can use ACSYS laser systems to achieve high-quality solutions when designing interior elements, while reducing time and costs:
Say goodbye to complex etching processes for graining and perforation by streamlining everything with laser engraving. The engraving process is perfect for small components and intricate details, and is often faster, easier, and cheaper.
Effortlessly create day/night designs for interior components through laser ablation, removing paint, chrome, foiling, and other top layers.
Forego the expense and hassle of glue, screws, and staples by using high-tech laser welding for key interior parts.
Graining & perforation
The graining of interior trim in the automotive industry is usually etched. A more sustainable processing method is to engrave the surface using a laser to create the corresponding graining. Laser engraving is often simpler and more economical, especially for small parts and complex shapes, such as those found in interior trim in the automotive industry. In addition, defective surface structures in a workpiece can be optically repaired with the laser.
In addition, the creation of high-quality and complex perforation patterns on various organic and textile materials is easier, cheaper and more efficient with the help of laser technology.
Day/night design
The base material can be exposed by selectively removing a top layer, such as anodizing, foiling, paint or chrome. Backlighting can then be used to create day/night designs on switches and other decorative elements in the vehicle interior. There are virtually no limits to the design possibilities with laser ablation, and with the help of the unique Large Field Removal technology from ACSYS, even large 3D workpieces can be provided with the finest structures and patterns without any problems.
Plastic welding
Plastic laser welding of speedometer bezels no longer requires screws, staples or glue. ACSYS fiber laser technology works with a large focal depth, so that process-tolerant welding is possible even if the materials have different wall thicknesses or are not perfectly perpendicular during the welding process.
Exteriors
High design standards, lightweight construction, and cost pressure are the drivers of innovation in the automotive industry. Suppliers of front and rear lights, front grilles, or interior and exterior foiling are just as affected by these factors as car manufacturers themselves. The use of laser technology can reduce component costs and assembly times while at the same time increasing quality and visual appeal. Consider the following options:
Selectively remove paint and coatings via Large Field Removal to create new design possibilities during R&D and production phases.
Avoid the unreliability and unpredictable results of brushing and pad printing, using micro-precise paint stripping for first-rate quality and durability. Add letters, logos, and patterns with ease.
Large-area paint removal
The LFR® technology from ACSYS enables the laser processing of 3D components with an area of up to 1,250 mm × 1,250 mm. The entire area can be processed during Large Field Removal without axis movement and the spot size of the laser remains precise thanks to continuous laser processing. This means that visible lugs or overlaps during processing are a thing of the past.
Selective material removal
Automotive rims must meet the highest aesthetic standards and constantly break new ground in terms of design, including individualization. The ultimate here is paint removal with ACSYS laser engraving. Compared to conventional processes such as brushing or pad printing, partial, micro-precise paint stripping with laser technology offers unrivaled quality and durability. Individual lettering, logos and patterns can be realized with the innovative process and create space for new design possibilities.
Electromobility & Batteries
High-performance battery cells are a basic prerequisite for the successful establishment of electromobility and for energy transition as a whole. Efficiency and performance are important components, but so is consistent lightweight construction with innovative compound materials. Your automotive operations can greatly benefit from:
Using laser joining to combine battery components and cells into convenient modules and packs, resulting in higher quality, lower cost, and greater flexibility
Combining alloys, composites, and other battery materials via laser welding, increasing production flexibility, improving quality, and garnering precise, repeatable results
Precisely cutting and shaping battery components and other parts via efficient laser cutting methods, preventing damage to sensitive components
Laser joining
Laser joining plays a particularly important role in battery production. This laser process offers significant advantages over conventional processes in terms of quality, cost and flexibility. This means that individual components or cells can be assembled into modules or packs more efficiently and with higher quality using laser technology. Especially when new multifunctional materials are used, which can often only be processed with a laser.
Laser welding
Whether aluminum alloys for lightweight components, nickel-based alloys or complex composite materials: Battery packs for electric vehicles use numerous different components and materials that have to be welded using laser technology. With ACSYS laser systems, you have maximum flexibility in the choice of materials and achieve the highest quality and repeat accuracy in laser welding.
Laser cutting
Consistent lightweight construction in the mobility sector means that thin sheet metal is increasingly being used. With high-precision fiber laser systems from ACSYS, thin and electrical sheets with a low carbon content as well as copper and aluminum sheets can be cut precisely and cleanly. Low-distortion and low-stress cutting with laser technology ensures perfect cutting edges at high cutting speeds – even with particularly thin and sensitive materials such as those used in the sensor sector.
Products and solutions
CUSTOM
From individualized laser systems with a wide range of options to tailor-made laser solutions: Customer-specific adaptations are almost always possible with laser systems from ACSYS.
Engraving, marking, structuring, welding, cutting: The PIRANHA® masters all disciplines of laser processing. This is what makes it so versatile and flexible in use.
The MULTISHIFT® from ACSYS is versatile, ergonomic, automated, full of high-tech and an eye-catcher. If only because you can watch the laser at work here.
ORCA® is the XXL laser center from ACSYS. The system scores with space and stability for voluminous workpieces. The result is precision on a grand scale.
The BARRACUDA® from ACSYS combines numerous laser processing methods with plenty of room for individual requirements. This provides maximum flexibility.
Auto manufacturers have a lot of processes they can use during production, but many cause problems of their own:
Inkjet marking and electrochemical marking require costly consumables, dot peen marking is slower and imprecise, and all of these options pale in comparison to the versatility and abilities of laser marking and engraving
Brushing and pad printing and other paint stripping methods lack the accuracy and micro-precision that laser paint removal can provide
Many welding, graining, perforation, and other processes are slower, needlessly complex, and don’t offer the versatility that laser machines do
When you choose ACSYS for your laser system, you get an all-in-one solution for laser marking, engraving, cutting, welding, structuring, and many more essential processes. Plus, you can seamlessly integrate our laser systems into your existing workflow, using both desktop and free-standing units to process key automotive parts.
